The Temple Run Franchise finally reached 1 billion total downloads according to game developer Imangi Studios. This put the game on par with Angry Birds.
The original Temple Run game was created by a married couple, Natalia Luckyanova and Keith Shepherd, in 2011. The 1 billionth download appeared somewhere between the launch of the original and Temple Run 2. According to Shepherd:
It’s just been amazing.
Temple Run is considered to be the one game that popularized the endless runner genre, a game type in which players guide characters through environments that become more challenging as time passes. It was this innovation that made the game popular and that added excitement.
The future may hold a Temple Run 3 game at one point in time but until then, the game developer is focused on other projects. This may be a good idea as various spin-offs of the endless runner are now available for download.
Reports also show the future creation of a Temple Run movie but not many details were released except that David Heyman is the producer.
