The Ramones co-founder Tommy Ramone, the last member of the original group that is still alive, died, according to a business associate’s statement. While no additional details were mentioned, the death was confirmed to have happened on Friday.
Tony Ramone was hospitalized after bile duct cancer. He co-founded the highly successful The Ramones band with singer Joey Ramone, guitarist Johnny Ramone and bassist Dee Dee Ramone. The band namers did have different last names but all took the Ramone common name.
Tommy was the drummer for the band until 1978. That was when Marky Ramone took his place.
The Ramones influenced generations of rockers through songs like Blitzkireg Bop and I Wanna Be Sedated. In 2002 the band was included into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.
Among the bands that recognized they were influenced by The Ramones we can mention Nirvana and Green Day. The band never had a song to reach the Top 40 charts, had a commercial success struggle but did influence the entire rock genre.
The Ramones officially disbanded in the year 1996 after the tour that promoted the final album, Adios Amigos.
