Joan Rivers, a pioneer in comedy and a renowned TV host with a career that span over 50 years died at the age of 81. Known for her fashion statements and her straightforward comedy that crashed a male dominated TV show host scene, Rivers will forever be remembered.
Rivers was hospitalized in New York City after she went into cardiac arrest. Melissa Rivers, her daughter, released a statement saying:
“She passed peacefully at 1:17 p.m. surrounded by family and close friends. My mother’s greatest joy in life was to make people life.
Although that is difficult to do right now, I know her final wish would be that we return to laughing soon.”
As expected, people from all around the world reacted to the death of Joan Rivers, with various celebrities from comedians to the prime minister of Israel saying things about her.
Joan Rivers had a tremendously successful career, making millions laugh thanks to various skits and an acid filled insult comedy style. She also wrote books that sold in millions, including memoirs and comedy anthologies.
Rivers will be remembered for her trademark catchphrase “Can We Talk?”, for her style and her charity work. She was a Cystic Fibrosis Foundation spokesperson and although she had her ups and downs, she was always sanguine and positive.
