This is a first in history as Congress is now taking steps to protect medical marijuana use instead of condemning it.
On Friday the GOP led US House made a bold move in passing a measure that prohibits drug enforcement agencies from raiding the medical marijuana stores in all states where they are currently legal.
The support for the bill was unexpected. 49 Republicans and 170 Democrats voted in favor. The final tally was 219 for and 189 against.
Minnesota is now the 22nd state that allows the use of medical marijuana. At a federal level it is still illegal though.
The bold move made by congress coincides with the general support noticed in the country for medical marijuana use.
