The third US citizen infected with the Ebola virus is heading back to the US but it is not yet known when that is going to happen. The person infected is Dr. Rick Sacra, 51. He will be transported in a special aerobiomedical containment aircraft.
Rick Sacra has been working with SIM USA, which contacted Phoenix Air in order to transport the patient. This is the same airline responsible for transporting the past 2 citizens infected with ebola.
No details were offered about where the doctor is to be hospitalized. The other two cases were treated at Emory University Hospital.
Bruce Johnson, SIM USA president, declared that Sacra was working at the ELWA Hospital, Liberia, was wearing protective gear as he was delivering babies but was not working with patients that were known to be infected.
Johnson also declared that Sacra was working with SIM ever since 1980. He volunteered to return to Liberia after the news broke of Writebol and Brantly having caught the disease. Brantly and Sacra are friends.
Johnson declared that it is not known where the Ebola infection was contracted. His statement was:
“They check patients at our hospital before admittance for Ebola symptoms. There’s a strong possibility that the Ebola symptoms were masked.”
Sacra will most likely not receive the same experimental drug that the other two patients received in US. Mapp Biopharmaceuticals, the company that creates the ZMapp drug, stated the fact that the supplies are exhausted.
