Hamas And Israel started observing a 3 day cease fire in Gaza that started on Friday as diplomats started working to broker a truce that would last so that the almost one year war that killed over 1,400 Palestinians, mostly civilians, can stop.
The official cease fire was announced by the UN and the US hours earlier and it took effect at 0500 GMT time.
Both sides agree to halt aggressive operations. Just defensive missions are authorized. John Kerry, US Secretary of State, declared that there is no guarantee that this lull will stop the war.
In order to stop Palestinian rocket fire against the country, Israel launched the aerial campaign against the Gaza Strip on July 8th. The attack was soon followed by ground troops aimed towards targeting tunnels and launch sites.
4 short cease fires, all humanitarian, were announced ever since the conflict started. Every single cease fire was broken hours after being declared. This is the longest of all announced till now.
While this cease fire is in effect, Israeli military ground troops present in Gaza can still destroy tunnels but just those that are left behind by the defensive lines and only if they lead towards Israel.
Update: Gaza officials declared that over 4 Palestinians were killed by tank fire 2 hours after the cease fire started. 15 other Palestinians were wounded. A spokesman for the Israeli Army declared that the military is investigating the incident.
