American journalist James Foley, 40, was killed by a masked jihadist with a British accident. The video was posted on YouTube by the Islamic State with the title “A Message To America”.
In the video, posted as a warning directed to President Barack Obama and the airstrikes carried out in Iraq, the American photojournalist was beheaded and forced to read a statement before the execution. The statement said:
“I call on my friends, family and loved ones to rise up against my real killers – the US government. For what will happen to me is only a result of their complacency and criminality.”
The killer then grabbed a second journalist, believed to be Steven Sotloff. The terrorist then made a statement and said that Sotloff’s life will depend “on Obama’s next decision.” The video’s authenticity was not immediately possible to verify.
The executioner also declared:
“Any attempt by you, Obama, to deny the Muslims their rights of living in safety under the Islamic caliphate will result in the bloodshed of your people.”
The US intelligence sources are now working to verify the authenticity of the video. YouTube quickly removed it after it appeared.
