The German BND foreign intelligence agency came to the conclusion that the responsibility for the Malaysia Airline MH17 downing is that of the pro-Russian rebels, according to a report by Der Spiegel.
The July 17 crash that took place right over the pro-Russian controlled Ukrainian territory killed 298 crew and passengers. It also led towards a further deterioration noticed between Moscow and Western countries.
According to the president of the BND, Gerhard Schindler, declared that the separatists used Russian BUK missile from Ukrainian base territory. The rocket launched exploded close to the aircraft. The magazine quoted Schindler as saying:
“It was pro-Russian separatists.”
BND came to the conclusion that the rebels are responsible after having analyzed different satellite pictures. Kiev also blamed the pro-Russian rebels and did accuse Russia of having armed them. Rebels deny accusations.
European governments did not openly point the finger towards anyone till now, even if John Kerry, US Secretary Of State, declared that they had strong evidence that the separatists downed the plane. The Dutch government currently goes through 2 investigations and still does not declare who is responsible.
