According to Iraq’s human rights minister, the Islamic State militants killed over 500 Yazidis during the northern Iraq offensive. Mohammed Shia al-Sudani declared that Sunni militants also buried alive many victims, including children and women, together with kidnapping around 300 womens and holding them captive, as slaves.
Sudani declared in a phone interview:
“We have striking evidence obtained from Yazidis feeling Sinjar and some who escaped death, and also crime scene images that show indisputably that the gangs of the Islamic States have executed at least 500 Yazidis after seizing SInjar.”
Sinjar is among the towns that was captured by Sunni militants who see the community as being “devil worshipers”. Yazidis were told to convert to Islam or they would be killed.
The deadline for 300 Yazidi families to convert to the Islamic religion passed on Sunday and now they are faced with death threats in front of the militants.
The comments made by the minister can pile pressure on US, which carried out several air strikes on targets of interest from the Islamic State. The airstrikes came in response to the push through the norht of Iraq.
