A group of Libyan rebel militia members entered an US Tripoli embassy annex. It was reported that they did not break into the main part of the compound. The good news is that the US evacuated staff in the embassy last month, according to an official.
The video above was uploaded and showed the breach of the diplomatic facility by a group of armed people, believed to be members of a militia group from Misrata. The fighters are seen around the swimming pool and into a balcony.
At the moment, Libya is rocked by factional violence, the worst one since the Muammar Gaddafi fall in 2011. It is not yet know how close the annex is to the actual embassy.
The embassy was evacuated on the 26th of July according to US officials. Diplomats were moved to Tunisia. The current rebel takeover is just a symbolic blow to the US policy in Libya. Western Governments believe that the country is faced with problems that cannot be resolved and that can lead to anarchy.
According to the US government, the main compound of the embassy is intact. It was not taken over by the militia members. This statement was made by an US official under anonymity condition.
