White House security was breached as a man jumped the fence and made it all the way to the executive mansion front doors. He was apprehended and then an evacuation quickly took place. The incident took place a short time after Barack Obama and his family left for the weekend.
The man was identified as 42 year old Omar J Gonzales.
According to a Secret Service spokesman, the man breached the complex at 7:20 EDT on Friday. The man ignored the commands to stop and then was caught. He was unarmed.
The security of the entire complex is now questioned since it is quite unusual for any man to be able to make it so far inside the grounds since the White House is guarded by snipers and officers.
According to Ed Donovan:
“The Secret Service will review the response to ensure that the proper protocol was followed.”
He also added that the fact that the man made it so close to the doors is considered to be “not acceptable to us and it’s going to be closely reviewed.”
According to a White House spokeswoman, Michelle Obama was not at home as he was at the Maryland presidential retreat. Shortly before the man jumped the fence, the president and his daughters left towards the retreat via Marine One.
This is not a lone incident. It is actually one of the different cases in which public members made it to the White House gates, thus leading to lockdowns.
