The Egyptian proposal for a new 72 hours cease-fire between the Palestinian factions and Israel was accepted by Palestinian negotiators. This decision is basically aimed to renew the negotiations and try to arrange a long-term agreement, a truce with Israel in the Gaza Strip.
Following the rocket fires resuming during the weekend, Israel walked away from the negotiations. The officials declared that they do not negotiate when under fire.
Officials representing various Palestinian factions in Cairo spoke under anonymity as they were talking about sensitive negotiations. However, there is an unanimous decision to agree to a new 3 day cease-fire in the event that Israel also agrees.
The current fights between Gaza militants and Israel led to the killing of over 1,900 Palestinians. Most of them were citizens. On the Israeli side, 67 people were killed, most of them soldiers.
