The NYPD arrested a women on suspicion of abandoning her baby in a Manhattan subway station. She is 20 years old and is currently questioned, without charges having been filled immediately.
The arrest was made after authorities were notified following a report by people that recognized her from video and images made public by the police. Footage showed the woman abandoning the child.
The baby that was abandoned was 6 to 7 months old according to authorities. She was examined and no trauma signs were found.
Now the baby is under the care of the Administration for Children’s Services, New York. No statement was made about what steps will be taken.
A New York city law allows citizens to take the baby that is unwanted to a police station, a hospital or a firehouse without having to ask any questions. However, this does not apply to this case because the baby would need to be 5 days old or younger for it to apply.
The NYPD is expected to make an official statement in the near future, after questioning the suspect.
