Brazil won the opening game of the FIFA World Cup against Croatia with the final score 3-1. Oscar Neymar’s performance stood out with two goals but according to Niko Kovac, the team should just pack and go home after a penalty was awarded against his team when the score was tied.
Few will question the fact that Brazil deserved the victory but a penalty that was awarded when the score was 1-1 made Dejan Lovren make the following statement:
“Two billion people I think saw that it was not a penalty. I didn’t touch him.
We’re really disappointed but what can you do against 12 players? You can’t do anything. I’m sad, that’s it, because we played a good match and the referee – it wasn’t a mistake, it was a scandal.”
According to people in the Brazil squad, including coach Scolari, the decision was a correct one. However, soccer players from all around the world agreed that the penalty was softly given, including Phil Neville.
Oscar Neymar scored the penalty and then doubled up close to finish.
