After the dominant win that Floyd Mayweather Jr had in front of Marcos Maidana, it took just minutes until the question about facing Pacquiao appeared. Mayweather agrees to facing him in the future, if this is a possibility.
Mayweather had a unanimous victory decision that lead to an improvement of his perfect boxing record, now at 47-0. The boxing world is heavily speculating about a super fight between him and Manny Pacquiao. After the fight was over and the question appeared, Mayweather said:
“I got to go back and talk to my team, I’m not ducking or dodging no opponent. If a Pacquiao fight presents itself, let’s make it happen.”
Boxing fans from all around the world wait for the fight between the highly aggressive Pacquiao and the defense oriented Mayweather. The two are considered by most bookers as being the biggest possible drawcards that this generation has.
Pacquiao is currently on a downfall after losing 2 consecutive matches against Timothy Bradley and Juan Manuel Marquez. There has been talk of him retiring but he did come back with 2 consecutive wins, both impressive.
In 2010 there were talks that were carried about a fight with Mayweather but negotiations stopped after the American boxer wanted random drug testing to be done.
In the past, Mayweather hinted at the use of illegal methods since Pacquiao managed to win titles at 8 different weight classes. When asked about Pacquiao, he declared:
“I don’t think about Pacquiao, I don’t even know him. I wish him the best but that’s not my focus. I try not to focus on anyone else’s business”
Mayweather is set to retire in the year 2015 as his Showtime contract ends. There are two more fights that need to be scheduled till then. Just as the American boxer said about the fight with Pacquiao:
“If it happens it happens.”
