Luis Suarez’s 2014 FIFA World Cup is over as FIFA suspended the striker after he bit Giorgio Chiellini in a heated game between Uruguay and Italy. Suarez was banned for 9 matches for Uruguay and will not be able to play any soccer game for 4 months.
The Disciplinary Committee concluded that Luis Suarez assaulted Chiellini and that his act was unsportsmanlike. In addition to playing in the games, Suarez will not be presented to be at the stadium while Uruguay plays and a 100,000 Swiss Francs fine was also added.
Claudio Sulser, FIFA Disciplinary Committee chairman, declared:
“Such behavior cannot be tolerated on any football pitch, and in particular not as a FIFA World Cup when the eyes of millions of people are on the stars on the field.”
The news hit the Uruguay soccer team as Suarez was the star and the following match in the round of 16 against Colombia will surely be difficult.
Suarez was not at the first biting incident of his career. This was actually his third.
Do you think the FIFA decision was correct?
