Different media outlets already covered Microsoft’s plans to introduce a smartwatch, marking the technology giant’s entrance in the wearable gadgets market. The device planned will offer different sensors and will be able to measure heart rate while a synch with Android Phones, iPhones and Windows Phones is prepared.
The smartwatch market is currently dominated by Samsung and Apple. In an attempt to launch a successful product, Microsoft will take advantage of the Xbox Kinect division’s optical engineering experience. Batteries will last for around 2 days.
When asked for a comment, a Microsoft spokesman said:
We have nothing to share.
According to inside sources, the Microsoft smartwatch will be different as it will not be turned on in order to monitor heart rates. It will track the entire day and the design will be similar to that of the Gear Fit by Samsung.
The recent move is one that is on par with Microsoft’s new business approach, trying to develop products and services that work on different platforms. It is obvious that there is a wish to not only stay focused on Windows products.
While a lot of speculation surrounds the product launch, Microsoft’s history is either highly successful or a disaster (see Zune and the struggles that the Surface tablet goes through). Only time will tell if the Smartwatch will even be released but you may want to keep your eyes open for it this summer.
