Starbucks partnered with Duracell powermat in order to offer people a new reason to enter the coffee shops. An official announcement will be offered soon but we now know that Starbucks will offer wireless phone chargers at a national level in 2015 for all Teavana and Starbucks locations.
The first stores to take advantage of the addition will be those in the San Francisco Bay. The consumers can simply place the phones on special tabletop spots and batteries will get charged without cables or plugs.
In the following 3 years we will see over 100 thousand table chargers that will be installed in the company-owned US stores. An initial estimate is that around 12 chargers will be present in each store.
According to Starbucks chief digital officer, Adam Brotman:
“Starbucks believes this is another step in staying ahead of the curve when it comes to in-store technology.”
In order to be able to take advantage of the addition, the visitor needs to have a cellphone that is capable of recharging through a wireless connection. There are not many of these available on the market at the moment. However, accessories that offer such a feature are expected to sell really well in the near future.
When it comes to coffee sellers, Starbucks stands out as a trend-setter. It helped popularize Wi-Fi hot spots and this latest addition will surely be welcomed by the younger crowds.
Are you looking forward to this addition? Do you have a phone that can recharge through a wireless system?
