3 townhouse caught fire in Staten Island. Officials said that 34 people were injured. This includes 23 firefighters and 2 young children. The children were thrown out of the window and caught by neighbors according to witnesses and authorities.
The Staten Island fire was massive and had a response of 200 firefighters. It erupted at 1 AM and lasted for several hours. It was impossible to pinpoint how the fire started. This will be determined by an investigation.
Cindy Piscopo, a resident of one of the townhouses affected, declared:
I saw fire upstairs and flames shooting out of the side of the building. The top floors are gone from both buildings. My life is in there.
Anthony DiSimone, a neighbor of Piscopo, said that he helped 2 children as a man who is believed to be his father threw them out the window for him to catch. The children are aged 3 and 5 and they received emergency care. The father was saved by firefighters.
