At least six people have died after an Amtrak derailed Tuesday night in Port Richmond, Philadelphia. More than 140 were injured, according to local hospital records, and eight patients remain in critical condition at Temple University Hospital.
“We do not know what happened here… we are not going to speculate,” Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter said at a press conference, adding that the scene was “an absolute, disastrous mess.”
“There were some pretty banged-up people. One guy next to me was passed out. We kicked out the window in the top of the train car and helped get everyone out.”
