New York prison escapee Richard Matt was reportedly drunk and sick when he was shot dead by police on Friday.
Matt was found was found near the north end of Lake Titus in Franklin County days after he separated from fellow escapee David Sweat.
Sweat, 14 years younger than Matt, reportedly thought the older inmate was slowing him down.
Police were alerted to Matt’s presence near a cabin, where they later found soiled underwear, an empty bottle of rum and half-drunk bottle of grape-flavored gin.
Matt is believed to have been sick when he was found. Officers who were searching for him near the cabin were able to locate him thanks to a coughing sound in the woods.
Moments later, Matt, holding a 20-gauge shotgun, was confronted by police. They ordered him to drop down the gun but he refused. He was then shot in the head three times.
Sweat was found about 16 miles from where Matt was shot dead. He was shot and captured and he is now in serious conditions at an Albany hospital.
