Russia now earmarked the amount of $20 million in order to help fight the Ebola virus outbreak. Dmitry Medvedev, Russian Prime Minister, made the announcement at the East Asia Summit during Thursday. Medvedev declared:
“Top priority measures today should be taken to fight the fever, caused by the Ebola virus. Russia is allocating around $20 million for these aims.
We are developing drugs to prevent and treat this disease.”
Dmitry Medvedev also offered various countries to share the results of the scientific research currently done in order to create effective medication that can help treat Ebola.
At the moment, the death toll associated with the Ebola outbreak reached 5,160, according to a statement made by the World Health Organization. Most of the people died in Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea. The number of people infected passed 14,000.
During the last month, Vladimir Putin declared that Russia will keep helping the entire international community in its fight against the deadly virus outbreak. Efforts will also be made to protect Russians from the virus.
Ebola was previously known as Ebola hemorrhagic fever. It is a severe disease that is often fatal. The virus causing it passed from wild animals to humans and can be transmitted from one person to the next. Average EVD death rate is currently around 50%.
