8 civilians were killed as a roadside bomb blew up a vehicle in the southern part of Afghanistan. 5 of the victims were women and the news comes as UN highlighted that the current Afghan war is inflicting more devastation on civilians as casualties rise.
According to provincial governor spokesman Dawa Khan Minapal:
“They were traveling from Pajwai district to Kandahar city to visit a doctor and do some shopping for the upcoming Eid al-Fitr (Muslim holiday). But their vehicle was targeted by a roadside bomb freshly planted by the Taliban and this tragedy happened.”
The Taliban ordered men to make sure that civilians are not targeted but this did not happen. An official July 4th Taliban statement read:
“We have to be very careful when planting roadside bombs targeting the enemy and we have to consider ordinary lives.”
A similar Jalalabad incident killed 2 civilians as a remote control bomb was detonated. An army vehicle was the target but it was not hit.
