ISIS militants shocked the world on Sunday by posting photos of them executing men north of Baghdad. The photographs were posted on one of the Twitter accounts that they use. Photographs showed men dressed in civilian clothes, believed to be Iraq soldiers that were captured. Masked fighters were then shown firing at the men.
We cannot verify photo authenticity. Twitter quickly responded and suspended the account.
The capital is currently in a normal state after Shiite militias managed to stop the Al-Qaeda inspired terrorists in their march towards the capital.
On Saturday, the Shiite militia captured a town north of Baghdad and that suggested that militant onslaught started to be countered. In the capital we saw a call to arms being issued that brought in thousands of armed Shiites.
According to a turbaned cleric named Khodr al-Tamimi:
“We want to show the world that we can protect ourselves. Wherever they go, we will defeat them.” (speaking about ISIS)
At the moment there is not much information offered about anything going on in Iraq. the two parties are exchanging blows daily but it seems that Iraqis are starting to mount a comeback and are using military tactics to retreat when they are overwhelmed and attack when they are strong. US military intervention may not be needed if things go as planned.
