Neymar is out of the FIFA 2014 World Cup because of a broken vertebra that sidelines him for 4 weeks. The injury took place during a collision with Juan Camilo Zuniga in the game between Brazil and Colombia yesterday.
Neymar, 22, was carried from the field on a stretcher. According to reports, he was “screaming in pain in the dressing room”. An official statement declared that the injury will not require surgery and that recovery time should be around 4 weeks.
It was not clear initially if Neymar will stay with the team as Brazil prepares to take on Germany in the World Cup semifinal. The soccer team’s biggest star stood out in the competition so far with 4 goals in the first 3 games.
Luiz Felipe Scolari, Brazil coach, declared after the game:
“Everybody knew that Neymar would be hunted. It’s been happening in the last three matches and we had been talking about it. But nobody listens to us.”
The incident raises questions from the fact that soccer players with high values are attacked by the other teams on the field and that the referees should do a better job in protecting them.
