The large Russian trucks convoy that entered Eastern Ukraine returned home after unloading medicine and food in Luhansk. The Russian government declared that it is satisfied with the operation.
Russia was heavily criticized for its decision to send the humanitarian convoy without an International Red Cross escort or clearance from the Ukrainian government.
Russian TV stations covered the crossing. The official decision for the convoy sent was that the Russian Foreign Ministry declared an Eastern Ukraine humanitarian crisis, one that was so grave that they cannot tolerate the stalling of the International Committee of the Red Cross and the Ukrainian government.
In Kiev, Col Andriy Lysenko, military spokesman, declared that Russia was using the trucks in order to give the rebels a chance to regroup and take equipment from Ukrainian factories. No evidence was offered to support the claim.
