Different US intelligence officials are now concerned that Al-Qaida tries to develop improved, new bombs that cannot be detected by airport security. There is absolutely no indication that this type of bomb was created till now or that there is one specific threat but even so, officials called for increasing foreign airport security measures when there are direct flights to USA.
According to American intelligence, there are indications that Yemen-based bomb makers traveled to the country of Syria and then connected with Al-Qaida.
The Al-Qaida terrorists based in the Arabian Peninsula are fixed on trying to use hidden explosives in order to bring down airplanes. The groups there were behind thwarted and failed plots to use explosives and suicide bombers. The explosives were hidden inside printer cartridges and even underwear.
The big fear is that people with a Western or US passport can carry a bomb onto an US plane because of less stringent security screening.
While in the past there were concerns raised with explosives that were non-metallic and that were surgically implanted in the body, no mention of bomb type was presented now.
US citizens should not overreact. While there are clearly some concerns that are centered around the security of flights, the increase in security should be enough to cover potential threats.
